Kickstart Scheme
As part of the government’s Plan for Jobs, a new £2 billion Kickstart Scheme will create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people across the country.
The Kickstart Scheme is a £2 billion fund to create hundreds of thousands of high quality 6-month work placements for young people aged 16-24, who are claiming Universal Credit. Shropshire Chamber of Commerce is working alongside the British Chambers of Commerce and is a recognised intermediary in coordinating business responses.
Richard Sheehan, Shropshire Chamber Chief Executive said:

“Through our connectivity and collaboration with our members and the wider business community, we are strategically positioned to be the conduit for those employers who wish to engage in this innovative scheme by ensuring a simple and straight forward process for them to register any of their vacancies with us and we will take care of the administration”

The Government will fund 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. In addition, businesses taking on a Kickstart candidate can apply for £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training.

Your Chamber will assist you in facilitating the Kickstart scheme to provide opportunities for 16-24 year olds, and advise you on the next steps to a successful future for your business and the candidate(s). If your organisation is creating fewer than 30 Kickstart job placements, Shropshire Chamber is acting as an intermediary with the DWP to assist you.
