Dame Agnes Hunt’s remarkable autobiography forms the basis of this dramatic monologue, written and performed by Alison Utting.
Aggie was a phenomenal woman. Severely disabled herself, Agnes overcame huge obstacles in her mission to help others. Her indomitable personality and self-deprecating humour are woven through her memoirs. She established the practice of orthopaedic nursing and co-founded the world-renowned orthopaedic hospital at Oswestry. She also set up an award-winning specialist college to provide further education for students with special educational needs and disabilities.
The focus of this performance is Aggie’s youth, training and personal life, rather than the history of the hospital and college.
Presented with grateful thanks to Derwen College for permission to use extracts from ‘This Is My Life’ by Dame Agnes Hunt.
