On Saturday February 12th, Love Oswestry will be holding an all-day festival across Oswestry town centre which will include live music, guided tours, music and art workshops and a sunset lantern procession.

OFFICIAL OPENING with Cantiones Choir
on The Bailey Head at 10am

The official opening of the Love Oswestry event will be announced by the Town Crier. We will also be joined by local choir, The Cantiones, for a selection of songs.

START OF ‘THE LOVE OSWESTRY TRAIL’ COMPETITION

Enter The Love Oswestry Town Trail competition and find all 8 ‘Love Hearts’ placed in 8 local venues and you might win some TASTY PRIZES!

There are FOUR prizes to win of a lovely meal for two with a £75 Gift Voucher to spend at one of Oswestry’s wonderful eateries!

AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOP with Bongo Damo Session
at Hermon Arts, 10.30-11.30am

These workshops will be an introduction to this West African musical culture and the combination of instruments : Djembe’s, Dun Dun’s, Shake. Damo, is the founder of Drum Together Brum, a weekly Birmingham based African drumming session and he give workshops around the country with people of all ages, backgrounds and situations so you’re in safe hands!

LOVE OSWESTRY ZINE LAUNCH EVENT
11am-1pm at Oswestry Library

Find out more about making a zine, an online magazine, meet the artists who will work with you to create content and also have a chance to have a go at some simple printing!
Suitable for ages 12-18. Places are limited so please secure your place by booking with the library on Oswestry.library@shropshire.gov.uk or 01743 250351

WALKING GUIDED TOWN TOUR
leaves Castle View at 2pm

Join Oswestry’s knowledgeable tour guides as they take you back in time through our rich history. Please book in advance by calling 01691 662753 or email obt@visitoswestry.co.uk

JAMMING/FOLK SESSION
2-4pm at The Fox

Held at The Fox Inn and hosted by James Hickman and Dan Strong. For musicians of all ages and abilities – join in, or just come along, grab a drink and listen to the tunes.

TWILIGHT LANTERN PARADE
starts 5pm to 6.15pm on Festival Square

Bring some light to the dark nights of Winter. From Festival Square, we will parade the lanterns through the park before making our way up to the Bailey Head. Those who have made lanterns from our workshops can collect them from 4pm at Memorial Hall. Feel free to bring your own torch, but please, no naked flames.

LANTERN-MAKING WORKSHOPS

We are holding free craft workshops at Oswestry Memorial Hall for children aged 8+ (accompanied by an adult) to make and decorate lanterns for the Love Oswestry Lantern Parade.  The workshops will be held every Saturday from 22nd January to 12th February.  For more information and to book a place click https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/love-oswestry-lantern-making-workshops-tickets-244439062817

The parade is open to all even if you haven’t not attended a workshop.  Designs in Mind has been commissioned to make over 100 lanterns that can be collected to join in the procession from 4pm at the Memorial Hall on 12th February.

FINALE – LIVE MUSIC CONCERT/FREE, BOOKING REQD
7-11pm at Hermon Arts

Join us for the finale of Love Oswestry. Held at Hermon Arts Centre, local artists will be performing including Doghouse Derelicts, The Bartells and Gemima Gallier. Let’s celebrate our love of Oswestry with a song, dance and maybe even a drink or two, while supporting our fantastic local musicians.
