We recognise that the impact of the coronavirus outbreak poses considerable challenges to many local businesses. The rules of the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme have been updated several times, but aspects of the scheme remain unclear; and despite the assistance that the scheme offers, unfortunately, it is likely that many employers may still have to consider making redundancies.
Another particular area of uncertainty for many businesses is when employees now qualify for statutory sick pay (“SSP”) and the extent to which this can be recovered by employers.
To try and help local businesses deal with these issues we have therefore appointed Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors of 39 – 41 Church Street, Oswestry to provide employment law support to Oswestry BID Levy Payers over next few weeks.
First of all, Levy Payers are signposted to Lanyon Bowdler’s comprehensive and regularly updated web pages aimed at employers addressing issues arising from the virus outbreak. Their main page is here , their page dedicated to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is here and their page dedicated to SSP is here.
Further, as the law in this area is constantly evolving, Levy Payers can register to receive a mailshot from Lanyon Bowdler in order to be notified of the latest developments.
Levy Payers who require more in depth advice, having considered the above resources, can access a telephone consultation of up to 20 minutes’ duration. This will be followed up with an email confirming the advice provided by Lanyon Bowdler during the call and, if required, up to 50 minutes’ further work, such as, for example, in providing a template letter to be used when furloughing employees, adapted for your particular circumstances.
If you would like to take advantage of this support, email or call the office on 01691 700365 and we will guide you through the process.
