Oswestry Balloon Carnival & Wellness Festival boost Footfall almost 30%

Town footfall increased by nearly 30% over the previous two weekends, according to Oswestry BID (Business Improvement District). The measure, using BID’s Oswestry Footfall System, looked at footfall during the weekends of the inaugural Wellness Festival and the popular Oswestry Balloon Carnival compared to recent weeks since Covid restrictions were eased in April.

‘We are so pleased and heartened to see this footfall increase,’ said Adele Nightingale, BID manager. ‘A great deal of hard work has gone into these events and the organisers have had to handle a host of tough challenges, but they’ve come through fantastically well – it’s such a huge lift for the town going forward.’
She also praised the support of Oswestry BID for both events, and the strong partnership of Nightingale House Hospice, Oswestry Town Council, and Spirit Operations with BID in making Oswestry Balloon Carnival such a success.

The carnival drew visitors from across the country, said Adele, ‘with positive feedback on the events and town centre. That everyone felt so welcome is also thanks to the efforts of local businesses and residents too.’

In a further addition to encourage footfall around the town, BID is running The Great Oswestry Balloon Hunt – a free, fun family-friendly trail in which eight model hot air balloons have been placed in shop windows around the town centre. The winners will be announced on 6th September. To take part, visit: oneoswestry.co.uk/bid/the-great-oswestry-balloon-hunt/
